Today we are leaving in a world where everything has gone digital, live has really evolved since the invention of computer by Charles Babbage. The invention of this wonderful life changer was visioned and brought to reality by a popular mathematician known as Charles Babbage KH FRS, an English Philosopher and Engineer according to Wikipedia. In this article we will consider the origin, types and generations of Computer.

Computer has gone through a lot before it got to where it is today, in those days one Computer could eat up a whole room but today computers are now portable and in different sizes. One could think that the usage of such huge computers were much more better than the ones we have today comparing the sizes, our modern Computer can do much more better than the large computers of old. That's why Computer went through many generations to get to what it is today.

1st Generation

During the 1830s Charles Babbage proposed a design for the invention of computer, but he didn't live to complete his invention. He had purpose for this invention because he wanted the computer to be used to make calculation and

But in 1943, The University of Pennsylvania began construction and then the ENIAC was invented by J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly. Though it wasn't completed until 1946 this computer took up to 1,800 square feet. This computer was also known as Vacuum Computer due to the fact that it used about 18,000 vacuum tube. You can imagine what computer was in those day compared to what it is in our modern time.

2nd Generation

After the first generation came the second generation of computer.
The second generation of computer was known as a transistor computer, unlike the first generation of computer (vacuum Computer) this second generation used discrete transistors instead of vacuum tubes. The first generation generated too much heat that called for the second generation.

3rd Generation

The third generation of computer was better than the second generation. From the way computer evolved you can see that Computer advanced in generations.
Third generation computers came about due to the development of the integrated circuit (IC). The third generation of computer gave way for the computers that we know today. This generation of computer main's feature was its use of integrated circuits (IC).

4th Generation

The Fourth Generation of computers existed between 1971 – 1980, it made use of the VLSI technology (Very Large Scale Integrated (VLSI)) circuits technology. The fourth generation was also known as microprocessors. The first company to develop a microprocessor was INTEL.

5th Generation

This was the last generation of computer, the evolution halted here. The fifth generation of computer uses AI (artificial intelligence). This AI enables it to think like human being. Computers that uses the AI includes: Laptop, iPhones, etc. This is the computer of our time.
