An electric Bulb is an electric light that produces light as electricity passes through it. The filament heater up and produces light. The filament is covered by a glass which is induces with a gas to help the the metallic filament to reduce oxidation.
Oxidation is the when a metal is mixed with water to form an oxide
3Fe+4H2O—>Fe3O4+4H2
The reaction forms ferric oxide
Invention Of Electric Bulb
Thomas Edison was the first to create a bulb which produces light in US in the year 1879, about 200 years ago and was given an award.
Before that time, man used wooden torches, firewoods, etc as source of light and most importantly the natural bodies such as the sun, moon and stars.
The advances over the years made Electric bulbs to;
- Be more brighter
- Come in different types, shapes and sizes
- Consume less electric current
- Be more portable
- Be used as security lights
- Use other forms of energy (i.e. solar energy)
- Appear in various colours
The symbol of a lit bulb is used to represent an idea or being smart
Nowadays, lights are very important to everyone to see at night. Mobile phones even has LED bulbs to help the user to point light around or at the path he or she it going.
Engineers include light in a building plan. Some rooms have up to four places where buls are situated.
The different types of bulbs which are incandescent, flourescence and halogens are taken in ace and many prefer each to their specifications. In one way or the other, bulbs are included in devices to indicate their functionality.
It helps us to know where we are and where we are going. Electric bulbs helps us to determine whether the device or equipment we are operating are functioning.
**Without electric lights, it will be very difficult for a pilot to navigate right to the Airport at night.
I'm so happy to live in a generation which has a better improved technology (the new edge) such as lights. I can see in dark places instead of using wooden torches and firewoods and satellite as the only source of light. Are you not happy to have this development over the years?
