ProWritersHub Contest Week 7: You will Reap What you Sow
Greetings dear Steemians, special greetings to @steemalive for another week of amazing content topics.
It was a beautiful day. A few hours before the setting of the sun. I headed out to the Hausa market some streets away to get a few cups of rice and tomato which I planned to cook early the next morning. On reaching the market, I strode with a light dance step to my "customer's" stand. Hausa sellers refer to their buyers as customers and buyers reciprocate the love by also calling them “customer”.
The neighborhood was a new one to me. During the few months of staying there, I visited the Hausa Market severally. Due to my friendly and jovial nature, I acquired two really strong friends who own kiosks beside each other. One was a rice seller while the other one sold tomatoes.
So one fateful day, I wafted to their stands and exchanged pleasantries with both of them. Since the person I usually buy rice from was attending to another customer, I turned and bought tomatoes from my tomato customer, my second friend in the market.
We talked and laughed about certain issues.
When my other friend was done with all his customers I then went to his stand and requested a few cups of rice. He measured the mudu of rice joyfully whilst engaging me in a conversation. When he was done, I gave him the money and he gave me my balance. I don't know why I felt like crosschecking the change because I always buy almost the same quantity of rice so it is a normal thing for us but since I felt this strong feeling to count the change, I did and I realized that he had given me excess balance. Immediately, I called his attention to it. Rather than get the money, he was like "that is your balance, there is no problem". I had to explain everything all over again. When he understood the situation, he collected the excess change and thanked me profusely.
A few weeks later, I came to buy almost the same thing. On returning home, I realized that there were no onions at home and I was planning to cook 3 different kinds of food that needed onions. At that moment, I was low on cash since I had used up almost all the money to buy foodstuff. But then I rushed back to the market with the little amount capable of purchasing one small bulb of onions. As I reached there my rice customer asked why I was back as they all know my routine of purchasing things at that market. I explained my condition and asked for onions for the value of the money I carried. He told me "look inside that basket and carry that onion”.
I did and then asked him the price he told me "carry it and go". I had to ask again to confirm and he repeated it. I was so happy that I thanked him and blessed him. Truly he had saved my cooking that day.
As I was on my way home, I reflected on what happened and I was glad I sowed a good seed and it had germinated giving me a positive product.
How will it have been if I had not told him the truth and returned what was his not mine? This made me remember when my dad once told us a story about a court case and he emphasized that in all we do "you will reap what you sow".

That's true huni, you sowed a seed of honesty that's why your customer gave you the onions without you having to pay a dime. The trust your customer has in you is unfathomable
Yes dear and I am happy I was honest as it had birth a good fruit.
Keep it up dear, you're yet to reap other good fruits of honesty
Honesty pays

You're most welcome huni
We must reap what we sow! It's a wise saying. This type of act have fetched me lots of goodies. It's part of my attributes. But, it have not end oo, years to come, you will keep on reaping what you've sown.

Checking Post Quality
It is true, the produce never ends. The reaping continues .
Thank you.
Very touching indeed , but at times those seller's can get confused and handed excess balance to their customer . Under an unrealized mistake , while at times as well might be a test . What you did there was best .
True true. I am so happy that I did not do something negative.
Thanks for engaging.
😂😂 your cooking was saved
Haha yes dear, it was saved.
