Very terrible story dear but it's easy to make a mistake and regret it. I've also made many mistakes in my life, but I try not to dwell on them too much. I think that if you dwell on your mistakes too much, you can end up feeling sorry for yourself, which is not a good thing. I try to think about the good things that have happened to me and how I've grown from my mistakes.
Yes it's not good for one to dwell on the past but move on and think positive for better tomorrow
