The "X" In Xmas: What To Believe And What Not Believe

in SteemAlive3 years ago (edited)
I'm forced to write this article based on the false claims surrounding the origin of the "X" in Xmas. A certain submission is trending on social media alleging the X has links with atheists and Antichrist. They insist that their aim is to make void the real background of Christmas.

According to the report,

"Atheists & Antichrists decided to change it by removing the name Christ for an X to mean that there is no Christ. It changed the meaning by reading X-MASS i.e to mean "there is no gathering of Christ's Followers."Merry Christ-mas & NOT X-MAS".

Based on this, I wish to ask my fellow Christians a question. Why do we choose to believe baseless conspiracy theories. We seems to be tilting towards the so-called idle worship we detest. Beliefs like this amount to superstition and given what we were told about the faith, we shouldn't have any business believing unfounded claims.

The founder of the faith, Jesus Christ, is purely spiritual and heavenly. Why can't we follow the Christ we have chosen to follow? According to Bible, the word Christian was used to refer to those who behave like Christ.

And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch
Act11:26

Then let me ask again, do we still behave like Christ. If we do, we shouldn't be suspicious of every move or fabricate one false theory just to prove a point.

List Of Conspiracy Theories That Have Been Promoted By Christians In The Recent Time

Most of the conspiracy theories surround endtime happenings. They would try as much as possible to link every little parts of their claims to the Biblical prophecy; the book of Revelation. These are some of popular claims.

  1. 5G network is a endtime tools, designed to help the Antichrist control the world. Read More

  2. COVID-19 Vaccine contains chips that would programme people mind by the Antichrist.

  3. Obama and Bill Gates accused of being the Antichrist

Have any of these come to pass, not at all. I wish to advise us to desist from taking reports hook line and sinker. Investigating report is just a click away. Instead of consuming junk, we can type a few words on google or Wikipedia to get verified reports.

The Truth About The "X"

I want to say much as the "X" is not actually proper attachment to the "Mass" to mean Christmas, it is wrong associating it to evil. Let me explain little about the origin of the X. The report was right in positing that the word mass has Greek origin, but it failed to state the the is also has Greek background.

Here's what Wikipedia said about the discussion.

"Xmas (also X-mas) is a common abbreviation of the word Christmas. It is sometimes pronounced 'ɛksməs', but Xmas, and variants such as Xtemass, originated as handwriting abbreviations for the typical pronunciation ˈkrɪsməs. The "X" comes from the Greek letter Chi, which is the first letter of the Greek word Christós (Greek: Χριστός), which became Christ in English. the suffix -mas is from the Latin-derived Old English word for Mass."

The say the least, Xmas is the Greek word for Christmas. How? If both words combined to get the word xmas have root from Greek, you can be the judge.

The word have no link with atheist or Antichrist. Kindly disregard the wrong impression being peddled on the internet.
