RE: Movie Review: A Classic Horror Story (2021)
even though i originally heard negative things about this movie I really enjoyed it. There were certain aspects of it that I found impractical but overall I found it quite original and refreshing. Evil church type places in remote locations are always spooky to me.
Since I try and avoid knowing anything more than a one to two line synopsis of a film I know I'm going to be watching, I seldom read reviews before I've seen the film. So this one was no exception, but I'm quite curious about what were the negative things you read about it?
I think it is fairly evident that the film hadn't been done by seasoned masters of horror, which probably explains why some things really didn't seem realistically possible - such as what Fabrizio was actually up to - as opposed to indeed realistic Act 1. I wonder if that is what you mean by impractical aspects?
Yeah, I second that about buildings at remote places. It doesn't even have to be a church - have you seen the original Blair Witch? Wasn't there a sort of abandoned house somewhere in the woods during the finale?
yes, Blair Witch had some sort of cabin with a basement at the end of it and that was probably the best part of that movie which in my mind was not a very good film overall but it was a unique perspective on the horror genre and therefore was deserving of the praise that it got.
I don't recall the specifics about the negatives that I read about Classic Horror Story but just that it was getting mixed reviews. This may have stemmed from the usual we don't have any mobile phone coverage! which unfortunately is a necessary part of all films which could have been rectified in this movie simply by taking everyone's phones off of them while the were KO'd in the van.... but then the mystery of how they got to where they were in the first place would have kind of been ruined.
