Review: Jessica Jones

The series is based on the comic Alias by Brian Michael Bendis and tells the story of a woman who, after suffering a terrible accident that ends her family's life, gains super strength and the ability to fly. This woman, failing in her career as a superhero, becomes a private investigator. From there her life progresses without any problem until a mysterious figure returns that tormented her in her past.

The vast majority of Netflix series are characterized by having a dark environment unlike the entirely joyful MCU, however, despite taking place in the same universe and taking place in the same streets as Daredevil, Marvel's Jessica Jones manages to possess an own identity, relating but at the same time differentiating itself from the series of man without fear. Jessica Jones is a Psychological Thriller, although it has action scenes they are only an addition in the real battle that is being fought between our heroine and this season's villain, Kilgrave.

The weight that Krysten Ritter had to bring this character to life is greater than that of many other actors. She is the first female lead in the MCU and manages to tear down the rumor that people are not going to want to see a series with a superhero as the main character. Her character is a cynical, alcoholic, and tormented private investigator who tries to fight her impulses to help other people.

David Tennant plays Kilgrave a villain who differs from any other in the MCU, although it is true, it is a bit difficult not to compare it to the magnificent work of Vincent D'Onofrio. Kingpin was a villain with great ambition and the best in the entire universe of the Marvel series, in my opinion.

Kilgrave, better known as The Purple Man has the ability to make anyone obey his orders, managing to get all the money and power he wants just by asking for it he really does not have much need to control organized crime. What the villain has is a particular obsession with our heroine, a sick and twisted love. That added to his lack of morality and disinterest in human life offers us a villain capable of destroying everything to obtain Jessica's love.

Perhaps the point that detracts from the series is its repetition. The conflict is based on a woman with super strength and a man who can control people, but who does not present any resistance to the power of the main character, which means that he cannot physically compete with her. During 13 episodes plans are developed to capture Kilgrave and bring him to justice, but our villain always finds a way to escape, which in all episodes becomes a monotonous problem.

This is probably the most adult series in the entire Marvel catalog, or at least the one I've seen. The harsh reality in each character, the insults, the sex scenes performed by the cast is nothing comparable to the horror that Kilgrave represents to people. A person who raped our protagonist more than once and who without any regrets is capable of physically and mentally destroying whoever opposes him on the way, these elements give the series a darkness that is not seen regularly in the MCU.

Jessica Jones is a hoot for Marvel and it really leaves you wanting to see more. Without a doubt it is a test of the things and the issues that Marvel can deal with, leaving us impressed with each production (at least with the ones that are really worth it). It's been a while since she hasn't published, but it was due to lack of time. I hope you get back into the review routine and that you enjoy reading my opinion about this magnificent and mature series.
