Review: Avengers Infinity War

He could very specifically say that we are dealing with one of the films that have made history in the world of cinema. Avengers: Infinity War has impressive effects, gross things happen, it's bigger, more spectacular, more tremendous. It is a vital part of closing MCU's ten uninterrupted years.

Infinity War was an experiment of great proportion like never before seen on the big screen, bare all the potential of the Marvel brand in the cinema, but also its cliches and limitations.

After Captain America: Civil War it had become very clear who were capable of dealing with a production that covered so many characters, those people were the Russo brothers.

Avengers: Infinity War takes a tour of New York, space and Wakanda, passing through unexplored corners of the galaxy, with a good pace and practically no time slots left. In each leg of the journey, the fights are impressive, witnessing the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy against Thanos and her "sons".

Beyond what the Thanos Infinity Gauntlet, which demonstrates the abilities of each Stone on its own, the magical display of Doctor Strange is what stands out most of all effects. Although the new Iron Man armor and the Iron Spider suit are not far behind.

The specificity of the shared universe is the possibility of crossing, gathering and facing characters that were developed in other contexts and stories. This connectivity that the MCU films possess is the spearhead, and is at the complete disposal of Infinity War to make it its greatest strength.

The Guardians of the Galaxy insert themselves among the other characters in the MCU, when they find Thor in space and then unite with Tony and company, without any friction. Those subtle connections of relating some characters with others, is one of the great things that make this an excellent movie.

See the ego of Tony Stark and Doctor Strange colliding, Peter Parker and Star Lord exchanging pop references, Shuri showing that he knows more about science than Banner, Natasha and Okoye fighting side by side. The wonderful team made up of Thor, Rocket and Groot. The appearance of almost forgotten characters and a post-credits scene that leaves its mark on what is to come. Because of these satisfactory interactions is that we want to see Infinity War and it fulfills it without leaving anything to reproach.

This familiarity between the characters is what increases the CGI show. Every Thanos hit, every falling hero, hurts more because we've been watching his growth for years. This emotional connection is what positions the MCU above its competitors, and the reason why people never tire of going to the movies to enjoy their movies.

But, as in all films, no matter how structured they are they will always have flaws; In this case, operating with a massive amount of characters is what causes some stumbles. In fact, Avengers: Infinity War's two main weak points come from decisions that were made long before Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely even put a comma in the script.

The first is that the number of characters that appear, forces the script to take certain paths, leaving others aside. This external demand to have so many chips on the board ends up causing some of the spark to be lost, the satisfaction of seeing clear emotional arcs make their way.

Some characters have a lot more attention than they should have like Stark, Doctor Strange, **Thor, Vision, and Wanda. Others are reduced to the point of looking like cameos. An important aspect, and that is not touched, is the reunion between Bruce Banner and Natasha Romanoff, being even in the background.

In Infinity War the producers, screenwriters, and directors rightly decided to avoid missing too much of Thanos journey to find the Infinity Stones. His past life and motivations unfold, so he is not a flat villain. Gamora, as the favorite daughter of Titán Loco, gets an important role in the plot and is a plus.

The other decision that hurts the film strongly is to present it with the intention of a sequel. Although "Part 1" has been scrapped in the title, Infinity War is clearly half of a story ending in Endgame.

Once again the film's creatives can be commended for creating a coherent story, and in its own way, with a beginning, middle, and end. It is surely better posed on its own than other "Part 1".

The achievement of the first installment of Avengers, which generated a synergy that not only knew how to take elements from five previous productions, but also elevated them into something new and better, increasingly forms as the unattainable standard of the shared universe. A magic so powerful that not even Joss Whedon could find it a second time. Avengers: Infinity War was undoubtedly a great explosion, at the time, for the world of cinema. An original film where the villain is the true protagonist.

I loved it the first time, and when I had to watch it over again in cinema as a "warm-up" for the early premiere of Endgame, I had no trouble watching it again :) Loved the movie!

It is good and I think it is a good preparation for Endgame. I only saw it once, but I feel good about it, since I think it is one of those movies that are seen only once. But ultimately, it is what I think.
