For some time now, the war to see which company has the best streaming service has begun, now there are different alternatives to Netflix such as HBO Max or Disney + that trying to fight against Netflix, in their streaming services they give you access to different exclusive movies that they own, something that was accentuated enough by the issue of the pandemic situation, since films that were going to be released in theaters, did so via streaming.

I have to say that HBO Max is making a notorious effort not to be left behind in this war, since there are exclusives on its platform that are quite attractive like Wonder Woman 1984 or without going too far, the movie of Justice League by Zack Snyder. A few days ago, the new Tom and Jerry movie was released via streaming, which is only exclusive to HBO Max, although you can also choose to see it in theaters and despite the pandemic issue Tom and Jerry has managed to show good income to Warner Bros and this leads us to wonder, is it good? I just saw it and I would like to give my opinion on whether it is worth entering the service just to watch this movie.

It was a long time since we had something of this duo of characters so it is comforting to see them back once again, the essence of Tom and Jerry is present since the characters behaviours it´s just as they would be in their old cartoons, things like the eternal rivalry between Tom and Jerry is present and it is great to see that they respected the original material, the comedy factor of this film is to see these two do mischief or how they fight over any little thing, making references to the old material, other characters also return like the bull dog Spike who is usually angry at Tom.

This film, like many of its genre, uses that resource of mixing the imaginary world with the real world, that is, all the character models such as Tom, Jerry, Spike and others are made with CGI, so it is basically to see a cartoon in the real world, the CGI is good, it does not stand out for its excellence but it is not bad, it is simply decent, enough so that you can believe what happens on screen, many would think that the film suffers from an identity crisis because of everything I mentioned but nothing like that, the elements of the imaginary world with those of the real world make a good cohesion, even so, sometimes it feels somewhat weird to see them in the real world.

Regarding the real world, I do not feel that there is too much to highlight, everything that surrounds this world is quite forgettable including the characters, there is nothing remarkable and they are all an archetype or a cliché, sometimes there are good jokes that are anchored to the popular culture, things like millennials and so on. Something I have to admit is that this movie looks quite nice, the effects are very good, I was surprised since I thought that this movie would have a lower budget, but to my surprise it was not like that.

Knowing all of this, do I think it is worth paying the HBO Max service for this movie? If I'm honest no, don't get me wrong, I don't think it´s a bad movie, but it definitely has its problems, it's not worth paying a service just to watch it, but it is undeniable that the HBO Max catalog is more and more attractive than ever, regarding the film, I would have preferred an animated film, which I think Tom and Jerry shine the most, in the end it´s a good film but it's not something that stands out, to be fair, I feel like for not having something from Tom and Jerry in a long time, the result has been satisfactory and overall it's very enjoyable.
