What do I do with... coffee?

in CCC4 years ago

At the age of 12, I drank coffee. Black, strong, no sugar, no milk. These days I hardly drink coffee.

My grandmother made it with a small spoon of "Buisman" and whipped hot milk.
Buisman is also called "burned sugar" and makes the coffee taste better.
She nor we had a coffee machine. We poured the water on the coffee by hand in a ceramic coffee dripper. We never drank it with a creamer/powder or coffee milk but with cooked whipped milk. At home, we made the coffee the same way, for a certain period we cooked it with water in a pan on the stove. For sure it tasted way better as what we drink these days. The quality of the coffee has changed. What once was the cheapest and worst coffee you could buy is these days sold as exclusive and "robusta".

We started with coffee beans and a coffee mill and ended with powder, pads (Senseo) and cups (Dolce Gusto).

As I got pregnant the smell of coffee made me gag.
I gave up on it, some months after I gave birth I could drink it again. It was the same with the next pregnancy.
After my third pregnancy, I still couldn't stand the smell and it remained that way. By now I am 30 years later. During all these years I tried to drink coffee but I can still not stand the smell and most coffees taste terrible especially those made by a machine or what we call "filtered coffee".

`My main problem is the smell. For a longer period, I ate coffee beans covered with dark chocolate and I really liked them.

What do I do with coffee?

I buy the cheapest instant coffee there is for years mainly for baking, Tiramisu, pudding and mocha cream. The bus-kid started drinking it to fight allergies, at times I do too (I can only drink it if it's not more as 0.5 tablespoon) or we drink coffee to fall asleep. I make ice coffee out of it with some cinnamon.

The coffee machine bought years ago ended on the attic because no one drank coffee (two of my children never tried).
About 6 months ago I gave it to the bus-kid in its room. It's used more since then. We make hot chocolate with it too. If I have money and see the cups for sale I buy them. To be honest I dislike the smell and taste.

Coffee-grounds is good to clean your dirty hands.
It's a great fertilizer plus keeps insects/parasites away from your plants. It's an old method to clean your drains with but I never tried it. With me, it would get stuck in my drains for sure.
