I don't have green fingers. Scratch that, I'm bad with plants. My friends told me my hand is warmer so I might not have nice luck with plants. Well, my body temperature is higher than average people so I don't get cold easily. My friends called me 'huggy bear' cause my hug is warm. We have some, we lost some, I guess. lol
Anyway, this is a story of me trying to fight against all odds and take care of a plant. Two actually.
Cactus.
This plant does not only require minimal care but can outlive the majority of plants. ... The average lifespan of a cactus plant is between 10 to 200 years. source
I was hesitant at first. Cactus may live long but can I really do it? I thought. But I braced myself and got myself 2 cacti. A bunny-ear cactus and a barrel cactus. Actually, I got it from my old neighbour who wanted to give them away cause they wanted to do some renovation or something. I don't remember much. It was more than 3 years ago. I don't have a good memory. Sorry.
I took care of them for about 6 months before I got pregnant. I was hospitalized for nearly 2 weeks and no one took care of them. I thought about them all the time. After I got out, my mum took care of me. She said she couldn't care for me when I was in the hospital so, she wanted to help a bit until I can walk on my own. When I was strong enough to go see them, they weren't there anymore. I was heartbroken. When I was alone, I always talk to them and I felt like my spirit was lifted a bit. I was in a long-distance relationship with my husband back then.
After a few weeks, I came to the idea that maybe they (the cacti) sacrificed themselves for my well being. I had a hard pregnancy. Those cacti made me stronger. I think it was a whisper from God for me to take care of those cacti so that I could learn from them and become stronger.
