C- stands for conscience. We're human so I think it's safe to assume that everyone has been faced with a situation where their conscience has beaten them for actions they've already taken or haven't taken yet.
This week, almost all the books I've read and listened to have themes of conscience. Conscience as defined by Google is a person's moral sense of right and wrong, viewed as acting as a guide to the person's behaviour. The bronze horseman and “ to kill a mockingbird” have the theme of conscience in common. Atticus, a character in the latter, when faced with the community's distaste and his conscience says, ”before I can live with folks, I've got to live with myself.” You could let others pressure you into making decisions that do not sit well with yourself but remember that you're going to have to live with yourself after all is done.
In the bronze horseman, Alexander cannot leave his wife in the Soviet Union even after she begs him to go and save himself. His conscience would not let him.
That's something to be said for characters like these, and for people in real life who allow their conscience to rule them even when it's uncomfortable and inconvenient. It's not easy but easy is kinda boring, no? Let's all do our best and be our best selves.
