The downside of a series is indeed that it takes years and years to watch it all, but you can often just skip a few episodes and carry on watching. I think a series, especially one with episodes of just 30 minutes, is also meant for people who don’t have much time. It gives you a quick distraction before you get back to work. Generally speaking, I find series rather depressing and they don’t cheer me up.

When I decide to watch a movie or series, I intend to have a complete picture and be rid of it. This is why I do not skip or forward, so I would not miss an important detail.
This is why watching series is exhausting for me, they keep changing the plot and it would seem the film is going nowhere. After two seasons, I simply quit. I'm no longer interested.
At least, we get to choose what we want to watch. I still see series with one season or two, at least I can watch it end. The point is to start and finish, not something endless.
