I don't agree with you. Friends we know better and an acquintance can be someone you only kniw by face and a few 'hi' and short chats.
I once bumped into a lady who asked me how I was doing (not to good). I had no vlue who she was but she gave me a hand back than and listened more than once. I can not call her a friend since after that episode I never met her again and still don't know het name.
To me she is an acquintance, someone I didn't forget, although most likeky 3 decennial did pass.
There are people kind, attentive and helpful still I will never call them a friend.
