What is passport?
A passport is a type of travel document, usually issued by the government of a country. It certifies the nationality and identity of the carrier during international travel. A passport usually contains the bearer's name, date and place of birth, photograph, signature, and other identifying information.
Bangladeshi Passport: It is an ICAO compliant, machine readable and biometric e-passport issued by the passport holder for travel abroad. Bangladesh is the first country in South Asia to issue e-passport to all eligible citizens. The passport booklet is produced, printed and issued by the Immigration and Passport Directorate of the Ministry of Home Affairs. An electronic microprocessor chip is embedded in the e-passport.
The e-passport incorporates thirty one different security features including embossed holographic images on a thin membrane layer. This security feature changes color under light and appears as moving. Also, Bangladeshi passports can be used in any country in the world except Israel. [6] The e-passport contains the holder's demographic and biometric information, such as ten-finger fingerprint, iris scan, color photo of the face and digital signature. The e-passport is stored on the chip.
[7] Depending on the age of the applicant, the e-passport is valid for five years or ten years and is issued to eligible Bangladeshi citizens by natural descent or direct citizenship through the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh or its foreign diplomatic missions. [8]

Bangladesh government issues three different types of passports. These are diplomatic, official and regular or ordinary passports.

• Ordinary Passport Sabuj Malat) It is issued to ordinary regular citizens of Bangladesh for international travel. Like vacation, study, business trip etc.
• Diplomatic passport (Lal Malat) is issued to Bangladeshi diplomats, top government officials and diplomatic couriers.
• Special Passport (Special Passport, Maroon Malat), also known as India-Bangladesh Special Passport, was issued to Bangladeshi citizens and Indian citizens of West Bengal and North Eastern states only. It was only valid for travel between India and Bangladesh. The issue of this passport ended in 2013 due to changes in ICAO regulations.
Bangladeshi passports issued from July 2019 onwards are bio-metric and machine readable e-passports. [8]
E-Passport: Currently E-passport has been launched. The database of e-passport will have three types of photos of the passport holder, 10 fingerprints and eye iris. As a result, the authorities of any country can easily know all the information about the traveler.
Information provided in the passport:
Passport holder information is written in Bengali and English on 7 pages; But for international recognition, some identity information is written only in English.
The first inside cover has a photograph of the National Memorial along with the National Anthem.

On the first page of the passport, the order by the President of Bangladesh is mentioned in Bengali and English.

On behalf of the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, all concerned are informed and it is expected that the bearer be allowed free and unhindered travel and provided with all assistance and security as required.

The main information is written on the second page of the passport. It has all the information pre-printed on a thin plastic sheet. The printed information is:

Most of the information on the container is stored with optical character recognition, which can only be read by a special device.

The third page of the passport contains 8 instructions written in Bengali for the passport holder. It is accompanied by a statement in English that reads "If this passport is lost abroad, the founder is requested to submit it to the nearest Bangladeshi embassy."
The fourth page of the passport contains further information of the holder:
