Parthenon Marbles

in Greece Community4 years ago

These are some of the historical marbles of parthenon that lord Elgin
was stolen during the time when Greece was occupied by ottoman empire

At that time the temple was secured by turkish military so Elgin claimed
that he asked the sultan for a special favour (they called "firman")
that was given by sultan for artists to access the temple, although
that document Elgin was never able to present it later.

Elgin was literally abused the 1/3 of the temple with the help of the ottomans.

He loaded those marbles in ships and try to get them in Britain.
Some historical marbles just fell in the sea and what was left of them
Elgin sold them to the British Goverment.

Since then Greece is fighting to get these marbles back as they are part of it's culture and it's ancestors.
