The weather was so bright, the breeze refreshed my day that afternoon. On Friday I visited one of the largest mosques in the city of Batam, namely the Sultan Mahmud Riayat Sah Mosque and at the same time I wanted to carry out the Friday prayer service.

The city of Batam has a beautiful and luxurious religious tourist spot, namely the Sultan Mahmud Riayat Syah Mosque. This mosque is one of the largest mosques and has become a new icon in Batam City. It is not surprising that many local and foreign Muslim residents visit this mosque every day. Especially now that the Batam city government is focusing on development in the tourism sector.

With that, the Batam city government began to build destinations that could attract the attention of foreign tourists. Sultan Mahmud Riayat Syah Mosque is located in Batu Aji District, Riau Islands, Indonesia. This mosque has an area of ​​5 hectares and can accommodate up to 26,000 worshippers. Moreover, the month of Ramadan is approaching, God willing, this mosque is ready to accommodate all congregations of Tarawih prayers.

This mosque was built in 2017 and inaugurated in 2019 by the mayor of the city of Batam. At the time of the inauguration of the mosque, it was able to attract 1,000 foreign tourists from Malaysia and Singapore. This mosque is designed with a combination of typical Turkish dome ornaments combined with 8 membranes that follow the Nabawi Mosque in Medina. The size of the membrane reaches 17 meters which is outside the mosque and at night the pillars of the membrane emit colorful lights.

Another beauty and uniqueness of this mosque is that it has the largest main dome in Indonesia, its span reaches 64 meters which covers the main hall and there is also a main tower beside the dome, a tower with a height of 65 meters. From the top of the tower, we can enjoy the beauty of the city of Batam from a distance. Usually when visiting at night the mosque management does not allow visitors to climb the minarets of the mosque.

To visit this mosque is not difficult because it is right on the main road near the market. Meanwhile, I myself also have a contract at the Fanindo housing complex, which is not far from the mosque. So to get there I only spent 3 minutes driving a 2-wheeled vehicle and the road access was also safe and comfortable. The mosque also provides a place to store goods and a large parking area for 2-wheelers and 4-wheelers and is guarded by security so our vehicles are safe.
