Last Sunday, I wanted to explore a small town that is about 15 km from my home, but which in recent years is becoming more and more famous and has even earned the nomination as a UNESCO site.
This is the town of Bolca in the province of Verona, in the northern part of Italy.
Bolca has become famous for the fact that one of the largest fossil deposits in Italy, but I think also in Europe, was discovered here and it was decided to build a museum in 1971, although many were transported to the National Museum of Natural History in Verona.
In fact, below I leave you a video I shot a few months ago, where I explore this museum.
It is very underrated as a museum, but if you happen to be in Verona, Italy, I invite you to take a tour, the entrance price is very cheap.

It seems that in this area, which was more than 800 metres above sea level, 50 million years ago there was a sea, and due to the fact that there are many volcanoes here, which are fortunately not active now, this caused the death of many species of animals and these were deposited in the bottom and covered with debris.
This natural process formed the fossils and then, thanks to excavations that started about thirty years ago, they began to be found.
The most famous is the angel fish you see below, which is the symbol of Bolca.
It seems almost impossible to think that there is a sea here where there is now a valley, but our planet has changed a lot in 50 years.
the ticket to visit the museum (which I will do shortly) costs 4 euro, while a few kilometres from the museum is the quarry where the excavations take place and there the ticket costs 1.50 euro.

In this village there is also the possibility of sleeping and recharging your electric bike, or if you want to go for an effortless ride you can rent your electric bike here.
Or for those who have a camper van or van, there is the possibility of free camping, with electricity and water, it seems to me, and also the possibility of discharging the camper van's waste water
But what I also recommend doing in this beautiful location is to wander the streets of the centre, which are full of small works of art such as frescoes and mosaics depicting the old trades that used to be done in these parts and which have unfortunately been forgotten.

I understand that Europe was in part a land of dinosaurs. There's an important zone in Spain (at Cantabria I think) where it's common to find fossils there. Those mosaics are interesting by the way. 👍🏼
