I promised, to be more present in this community also because part of what I earn I want to allocate to this community to make it grow and therefore from today I will publish several posts where I will let you know particular places in my country Italy.

So, today, I will start with an important church which is located near Ferrara, in the Emilia Romagna region, and which from my point of view is worth visiting.

This place, this monastery, has become in history one of the most important points of passage for many people, travelers, saints, hermits, who had to reach the city of Rome and used the Abbey of Pomposa as a stopping point to rest and then set out on their long journey.

This church is practically located on the road that from Ravenna, a very important city in Italy because there is Dante's tomb, arrives in Mestre, and in the middle of this plain in contact with the river Po, there is this church with this bell tower which reaches 50 meters in height.

It was right in the middle of nowhere in the middle of this great plain that Benedictine monks built this important monastic complex in the 7th century D.C.

What struck me in this church was its structure that recalls the nearby basilicas of Ravenna, with this three-nave layout, but I was also struck by the numerous frescoes found inside, in this church, most likely of the Bolognese school, and even some decorations are dated to previous years but are well preserved, and fortunately they have survived to the present day.

The mosaics are also truly impressive and we know that these areas have been greatly influenced by this art.

My impression of this place was very positive, but it was a pity that I could not climb up to the bell tower, because I was told that it is only open twice a year.
The only thing I recommend is to visit it in a summer period because in autumn and winter these lowland areas are always affected by fog.
