In today's post, I want to take you on a discovery of a place that is a little different from the usual. This time I don't want to tell you about a historical place or a monument, but about a place that can be very useful to eat if you visit the city of Florence.
In fact, in Florence, as in so many European cities, an important central market was created several years ago, redeveloping an important part of the city and giving many artisans of taste the opportunity to bring their beautiful workshops to this market.
A very important place, in my opinion, to enjoy local delicacies.
This is important market opened in spring 2014, replacing another important covered market in San Lorenzo.
In fact, it stands inside an old market that was designed as early as 1874, inside this structure made of iron and glass architecture, built by architect Giuseppe Mengoni, who is the famous architect who also built the famous Vittorio Emanuele Gallery in Milan.
But how does this market work in the end?
I will now explain how it works, then at the end of the post you will see what I tasted and what I recommend you try at this market.
Basically in this market, you shop directly in the shops you choose and can eat the hot products freshly prepared by the artisans right on the spot.
Of course, each shop is equipped with a till, so you pay for the product directly at the shop itself, and you can also decide whether to take the product you have bought away with you, or to eat it at the many small tables inside the market.
When you are seated comfortably, you will also have the opportunity to order drinks from the staff.
A beautiful service in my opinion, and you can even pay directly when you receive your order.
I would like to remind you that there is always free Wi-Fi available inside the market.
Of course there are several toilets inside the market, and there is also an infopoint where you can get all the useful information about the products but also about what you can find inside the central market in Florence.
Sometimes, small events are also organised, in fact there is a small space for a cookery school inside the market.

👉But what can I recommend you try? Typical of the Florence area?
In my experience, at the central market I ate the typical Fiorentina steak, which is prepared in Florence, accompanied by a good local red wine, and finally for dessert I ate a very good cannolo with sheep's ricotta cheese, which is, however, typical of Sicily, but which is a dessert I like very much.
From my point of view this is a great place to eat if you are visiting the city of Florence, also because on hot days here you will find coolness while on rainy days here you can find shelter where you can eat. The negative thing I want to share with you is the fact that the prices are quite expensive, but we must also consider that you are eating high quality, handmade products.
