Yesterday, I went to the Thunder Base

Hello friends
I have been wanting to visit this place for quite some time, and yesterday the opportunity came, the day was warm on the plain, so my mum and I took the opportunity to go up the mountain.
In fact, near Folgaria in the province of Trento is this missile base, which fortunately has now been decommissioned.

Below you will find where it is located:

It has now been turned into a museum, and can be visited at a cost of 5 euro, but if you have the trentino card, a card that is given to those staying in Trentino, entry is completely free.

I forgot that it is open from 9 April to 30 October, of course in the winter period it is completely closed, This nato missile base was active from 1966 to 1978, and this museum park ultimately represents only a part of the base, which was largely dismantled immediately after the Cold War.

As you can see in the picture in the first part there is a battery of 'Nike' missiles with conventional warheads, which were somehow supposed to intercept other missiles.
Truly impressive seen in person.

These missiles were supposed to intercept anything that came into Italian airspace, then they were put on display there but were not used in this base, an interceptor fighter, and a fighter-bomber that was always used during the cold war.
You could go inside and see what it looks like, all very interesting.

Then there were electric wagons that had the most varied equipment to intercept the enemy, with radar of all kinds and could run without electricity for many days, their purpose was always to detect a possible enemy.

It was a pity that we could not explore the bunker, yes because they had created a bunker under the pase in case of an attack, because it is currently being restored and therefore cannot be visited, but from what the guide told me it is very interesting because it is like going back in time.

Nearby, if you want to cool off, there is a small artificial lake, Lake Coe, which, however, as you can see from the photo, has almost completely disappeared due to the drought that is affecting Italy at the moment.

There is also an area where you can have a picnic, too bad there is not a single tree.

Visiting these places should make people think and make them understand, especially the new generations, that war is always wrong, and people want to live in peace!

I hope you enjoyed my story and I hope you also enjoyed the place I showed you, see you next time!

I like this type of museums because you also learn a lot about history. Of course I'm understanding that there are cards released in order to use it in the corresponding city and visit the local attractions with lower costs. Thank you so much for sharing this interesting content. Regards again.

Yes, Trentino Alto Adige is an autonomous Italian region, and therefore manages to give more services to the tourists who go there.
