All About Nature: Momong Beach at Aceh Besar

The white sandy sea seems to merge with the rows of hills in the distance, spoiling the eyes of anyone who sees it. Such views can easily be found in marine tourism areas, along the coastline in Lhoknga District, Aceh Besar.

Many locations have been managed as tourist destinations, one of which is Momong Beach. My family and I visited the place last December. Momong Beach is a new location in Lhoknga, opened since 2018.

Momong Beach is in the Gampong Meunasah Balee area, Lhoknga District. From the center of Banda Aceh City, it can be reached in about 45 minutes by motorbike or car, about 16 kilometers along the west coast road of Aceh. After passing the asphalt road near the location, visitors must pass a small road uphill, full of rocks and mud if it rains, for 800 meters. The challenges on the rocky road are nothing compared to the beauty of the beach.

The location of Momong Beach is surrounded by hill cliffs, white sand with calm blue sea water. There, there is a cafe and resort called Eky's Momong. Eky is the name of the owner.

The name of the place comes from the word Mon or well in the Acehnese language. In the past, residents found many excavations there such as wells, then called it Momong. Located at the bottom of the hill, white sand really fascinates visitors. Location is great for selfies. Want to swim? go ahead, although it is not recommended to be too far from the beach, because of the many sharp rocks there.

The Momong beach manager has prepared a special swimming location for children, making it look like a kind of pool bounded by rocks to keep it safe from big waves. My children and I had time to take a bath, feel the cold sea water in hot weather, make us feel at home while playing with sand.

Momong Beach is always crowded on weekends, because many local tourists or residents of Banda Aceh and its surroundings visit the place.

On site there is a café that provides a variety of food and drink menus such as Acehnese noodles, grilled fish, young coconut and various juices. []
