MOVIE REVIEW | THALAIVI | ONE OF MY FAVOURITE MOVIE
Jayalalithaa holds the record for most Tamil Nadu Chief Ministers. He was the Chief Minister of the state for maximum 6 times. The film is about the journey from the silver screen of cinema to politics.

Jayalalithaa was a popular actress in Tamil cinema in the sixties. Superstar MGR's pairing with him means a hit. This hit pair on the screen is tied to the chain of experience in real life. MGR was then the superstar of the Tamil industry and Jayalalithaa was the rising face. Moreover, the age difference is not less between them. MGR is also a married man. So his relationship with Jayalalithaa did not take a happy turn. So, here is a heartbreaking story written by Jayalalithaa. In the early eighties, MGR became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and invited Jayalalithaa to join his party. Although he denied it at first, Jaya later joined the party. But the political unrest of India in the eighties reached Tamil Nadu as well. Then with the death of MGR the situation became more murky. How did Jayalalithaa survive in politics in such a hostile situation? In male dominated politics, how can she be the Chief Minister even if she is a woman? There are answers to all these things throughout the movie.
First let's move on to the positive side of the movie. The performance of the actors was admirable. In this case, the "Art vs Artist" debate must come to mind. In real life, however, Kangana is as top notch as ever. I don't like him much for his controversial comments, but I can't help but admire his performance. Besides, it's nice to see Bhagyashi on screen after a long time. Raj Arjun's performance was also good. But I like Arvind Swami the most. If you watch any MGR video after watching his performance, it will be clear to you why I like his performance the most.
BGM was pretty good. Especially in the last half. However, the songs are a bit disappointing.
Also, I was able to connect with the movie in the second half. So I like the last half of the movie better.
Now let's come to the negative discussion. The story seems to have progressed fast in the first half. In the case of a biopic, in my opinion, what is most needed is the character development of that person. Although his entry into politics has been widely portrayed, nothing has been said about his entry into the world of acting. The first scenes of the movie show that he is going to shoot with MGR. I think the story should have been developed a little more here.
I don't know how the relationship between MGR and Jaira has been shown. Moreover, the set design is also lacking. While watching the first half of the movie, I was reminded of another movie. It is also about a heroine from the South, the movie "Mahanati" directed by Nag Ashwin. The care with which that picture was made, the care I missed quite a bit in Thalaivi.
I will tell those who want to see this picture to see the Tamil version. I have seen the Hindi version, so I like some scenes. I was quite optimistic about the movie after watching the trailer, but after watching the movie I was quite disappointed.
