One of the main factors that determine the quality of education is the teacher. Teachers are at the forefront of creating quality human resources. The teacher is the party most responsible for the implementation of education and teaching, the teacher plays a very strategic role in the implementation and innovation of Islamic religious education. In the classroom, the teacher is the key person who leads and directs the teaching and learning activities of the students. In the eyes of students, the teacher is someone who has authority not only in the academic field, but also in the non-academic field.
The teacher's role is very important in the teaching and learning process. The simple role and task of the teacher is to direct and guide students to increase their knowledge, become more proficient in their skills and develop and develop their potential. Especially for the task of religious teachers, besides being able to provide a correct understanding of religious teachings, it is also expected to be able to build the spirit and character of diversity that is built through religious teaching.
The main task of the religious teacher is to instill the true Islamic ideology in the child's soul. Once the importance of the teacher's duties and roles, professional teachers are needed in carrying out the task. Based on the results of the author's research by conducting interviews with the Principal and PAI teachers, to improve the professionalism of Islamic Religion teachers at State Elementary School 11 Lhoksukon, the principal has made several efforts including:
Doing Supervision and Coaching
Efforts to improve the professionalism of PAI teachers at SDN 11 Lhoksukon are carried out by the Principal with supervision (supervision) activities. This activity is carried out by the Principal on a regular basis by receiving complaints from teachers. The school principal also provides Islamic Religious Education teachers. With regard to supervision, the principal always conducts visits as well as class reviews of Islamic Religious Education teachers which are carried out according to the supervision schedule at the school. This program is always run by the school principal considering the importance of increasing the professionalism of teaching staff and academic development.
As stated by the principal that class supervision and coaching is always carried out by the principal in an effort to improve performance, foster enthusiasm and bring a comfortable atmosphere for teachers in teaching. According to the Principal, the use of the results of supervision is to improve the professionalism and performance of Islamic Religious Education teachers. With the implementation of supervision, at a minimum, a teacher will know what to do to a deep level can develop themselves, like their work and can teach well.
To find out the efforts to increase the professionalism of PAI teachers by the principal, the authors also interviewed PAI teachers. From the results of the author's interview with the PAI teacher at SDN 11 Lhoksukon, in addition to supervising the Principal, he also provides direction and guidance to Islamic Religious Education teachers.
