We had just sat down for my sister's birthday lunch celebration in January, when I get the text below from Discover Card fraud detection.
"Discover: We just declined ¤25.70 at MACYS RIDGEDALE. Do you recognize this transaction? Y or N. Questions? Call 800-347-4996 and enter 7004787. Stop to quit"
Of course I text back "N" and they send me this text.
"DiscoverCard: You identified potential fraud. Call 866-240-7938 now to help prevent unauthorized purchases. Text STOP to quit"
I call the number while we're waiting for our entrees and tell them I'm in San Antonio. They ask me if I have my Discover card and I tell them yes. The Macy's was in Minnesota and they had an actual card, trying to make purchases with my card info. They immediately cancelled my card at noon on Friday and I received a new card the very next day by Fed Ex. I've been a card holder since 1986, so I think I'm an original VIP or they like me charging everything. I hate to admit this but I charge everything to my Discover card, even if it's under $1. In my 34 years as a member I have received thousands of dollars worth of free gift cards and I have $934 credit for more free gift cards on my account right now. I know what your thinking, "they're not free with that high interest rate your paying on your balance!", but I've never paid a penny of interest on my credit cards, they always get paid off when due and I never carry a balance. Sometimes my balance gets ridiculously high! 😁

I've had emails advising of fraudulent purchases and caught them and reversed the charges. I wish my card did text alerts! Great way to use the system to get free money!
