Knitting

in Freewriters5 years ago

I started with it at a young age. My grandmother taught me how to do it. At primary school there was a teacher who taught it too. I remember how she asked what we liked to knit: socks I said. She never had knit socks into her entire life.
My youngest learned knotting too. Boys and girls are equal to us. At my granny's house it was the same. Out of school all children had to knit (only one girl). All skills you can learn are good for the rest of your life.
At the age of 15 I learned how to knot in a different way. Way faster than I could till that moment.
I gave up on it because of allergies. I kept the needles and have a box filled with wool. If I am in a shop and see wool it starts itching again. A lot has changed. Today it's knitting with very thick needles and all kind of wool, cotton, colours.
@marblely told a while ago she knits daily although she doesn't know what exactly. I am not sure I would wear what I knit but perhaps my children would? They still use the hats and scarves they knitted about 8-10 years ago.
Perhaps I give it a try soon. See if I can do it without sneezing... If I know what to knit. Still have a very old book how to do it. Bikinis, sweaters most like socks too. Vintage is hot anyway.

The last items I knitted were made out of plastic bags. A black handbag with the face of Jack the Pumpkin King, a black dog for another child and Mr. Bean's Teddy.
