A Little Vampire - The Tale

Once upon a time, there was a baby born with skin white as snow, lips red like the blood of a dead mouse that a raven ripped apart and his hair was dark as the pitch-black night and the bat that had never left his side. He was the beacon of light in the darkness.

The little boy knew nothing about loss. He scrambled, walked, fell but always landed on his feet. He didn't grow fast but enjoyed living in the forest with his pet. Time smiled and passed by slowly while keeping an eye on the child.

Ages had passed since anyone trespassed the woods, dared to go to the property that had always belonged to the king of Blood. A hero, saviour of the villagers until the tragic night 350 years ago.

It was in the ruins of an old castle the boy lived. It was where he slept after he roamed the forest with his friend. The longer he lived the further he went, following his friends who could always find the way back with their radars. Each one of his days ended happily.

On a certain day when searching for food, he found something strange. He held the crinkled paper in his hand wondering.

It keeps warm, the mouse who lived between the roots of a tree said, annoyed about the intruder with his bat, it makes a fine mattress or blanket. Hastily she pulled back with a piece of the ripped-up banknote.

The little boy sniffed. What was calling him, begging to follow and find the owner of the mouthwatering scent?

Can I keep this?

The mouse didn't answer, hid underground all she wanted was for the stranger to leave.

I'll ask around, the bat said, don't trust mice they ramble, tearing everything. Rodents are nervous, their brain isn't as great as ours. Let's go.

Fall arrived and kept an eye on the child. She knew he would soon spread his wings and she had to show something. She blew coloured banknotes in his direction which swirled around. He would follow the trail she had left for him. Winter was on his way, not much time was left.

Before Winter the little boy practiced flying with his friend.

You can do it just spread and flap, flap and flap.

Am I a bat, the boy asked, wondering about his size.

No, but we are related, family till the end.

Is there an end the child asked as they flew in the dark among the trees.

Not for you but for others might be, don't worry you are in the land of your parents. No one will harm you, just flap, keep moving your wings and now land.

Together the bat and boy hung upside down on a branch. There was that scent again. It didn't matter how dark it was he automatically flew into a whirlwind of odour. Before he knew he stood in front of a sign 'Elderly Home' it said. He knew the one he was looking for was inside.

The elderly woman was awake since it's too warm in daytime. She preferred the darkness. Her eyes lit as she saw her onlyborn, the vampire she'd lost long ago. The Seasons and Darkness had kept word and delivered her message to the past.

Once upon a time, a little boy was born. His mom was happy to have him. His skin was as white as the snow like the winter season he was born in. His hair was as black as a pitch dark night and his little mouth as red as the blood of the mouse tore apart by the cat and eaten by the raven outside.
His mom enjoyed the little bundle in her arms and stayed in bed for about three weeks till the moment Lady Spring arrived.
At the end of the day, when all villagers were back home the royal couple arrived to show the newborn, to celebrate his life with the village. They all drank, red wine or cherry juice, danced and cheered on the newborn while the musicians played on. The mother of the little man made sure everyone was happy and went home with three silver coins.

Lady Spring the Goddess came along as a warm breeze and blessed the baby with eternal youth. Father Winter, who was just about to leave, promised to be good to the child and keep him safe from the cold.
The God of Darkness smiled and embraced his friends, the proud parents.
He will be fine I take care of him during the night and will give him a friend with a radar to protect him. Your son will never be alone.
As he snapped his fingers a little bat landed on the hand of the child.
You have brought a beautiful child into this world, said Darkness, now I will let you rest.

The Goddesses Summer and Fall showed their faces the last of all.
No worries, I will never shine my light on him, declared Summer who loved the light skin of the offspring of the King of Blood, how about you Fall?
Fall, already older smiled. It was long ago she had seen new life. She hugged the child and said: This little vampire has everything but I take care that if he falls he will spread his wings and will always land on his feet again.

The residents of a nearby village heard about the silver coins. Furious that they had not been rewarded, they went to the King's castle. Not a single coin they found on their hunt for the treasure. They destroyed everything and set the castle on fire. The couple fell when Darkness appeared. The last thing one heard was the cry of a baby.

As I delved into the hero's journey in "A Little Vampire," I couldn't help but notice how the protagonist experiences phases of personal growth and discovery. This journey really adds something special to the story, truly impressive, indeed blood-draining😬

l love the 'blood-draining' part of your comment most of all!
Thank you. 🍀❤️

How lovely this story is, especially, the way you showed the infancy of the child remained intact after centuries, and aging of elderly vampires (despite being bloody vampires, i guess they must had stopped drinking blood to remain young.

Their classic reunion was a bonus after years.

Interesting story kitty wu

Thank you for your kind comment. What if everything isn't as we believe it is? The king of Blood was a hero and protected the village...

All the best 🍀❤️

What if everything isn't as we believe it is?

It would be the most courageous and bravest thing to explore🌹

Let's go for that. 👍
