The wall
The Prompt

Harry Jekkers wrote "Over de muur" (over the wall).
A song about life in East and West Berlin. Life behind and without a wall.
Forty years passed by and to those who listen closely both managed a lot but freedom is still an illusion.
English translation of this song:
"Over the wall"
(originally by Klein Orkest)
East Berlin, Unter Den Linden
People pass by flags and banners
Where Lenin and Marx still stand on a pedestal
And everyone works, hammers and sickles
While the guard is changing in parade pass
Forty years of socialism, a lot has been achieved in that time
But what is that state of salvation if there are walls around it
If you have to be scared and careful with your opinion
Oh what is that state of health, tell me what is it worth
When someone who deviates is considered crazy
Only the birds fly from East to West Berlin
Are not whistled back, don't get shot either
Over the wall, over the iron curtain
Because at times they want to be in the west, sometimes in the east
Because at times they want to be in the west, sometimes in the east
Posting it online, are you sure?
Hey look at me, I'm better
And with every like, the uncertainty grows
All those companies knowing more about you
Than you about yourself, will ever know
It's a scary thought, misguiding being trapped.in that web
And what's the value of money if attention turns out to be worth more
If you look at your screen with your back bent all day on
What is that freedom, behind that mask of happiness
We are beautiful just the way we are, please, don't break that
Only the birds fly from East to West Berlin
Are not whistled back, don't get shot either
A new wall, another iron curtain
While the screen distracts us, takes us back in time
Because they also want to be in the North, sometimes also in the South
Dutch songtext
"Over De Muur"
(originally by Klein Orkest)
Oost-Berlijn, Unter Den Linden
The bird
If I see the picture it reminds me of this song. A song that still makes me cry if I hear it.
Already in 1983 it was clear where we are heading to, which is exactly whre we are today.
East (Berlin) is free, no longer exists, just like East Europe but by now the entire world is trapped in the web and losing it's freedom. Most of us don't notice it but George Orwell's 1984 started 100 years ago and it makes me so sad.
