The hot afternoon made way for the cool breeze that heralds the beginning of the evening but the heat had not taken all it came with. The breeze that came had swept away the fog that covered her eyes so she could finally see what her best friend had shown her for months before this day when he came running with a picture of her fiancé kissing another woman at a club.
But she couldn’t be blamed because everyone knew they couldn’t resist losing themselves to a hot rich guy, even though it was a sham. Who could confidently say “NO” when the manner of approach used was tailored to break down their defenses, and insecurities; and eliminate any voice of reason?
She fell in love with her ideal man who, even she knew, shouldn’t exist. They told her: “LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP” but what she saw was a pitfall disguised as paradise before her.
He came like a knight in flashy clothes not shining armor though his car was a beast but not of burden saving her from having to pay for significant property damage by taking her out to dinner as he owned the place. Her pride as a successful woman had taken a back seat as her needs and desires took the wheel and steered her to this day.
This day in which the past had been unveiled became the starting point of a horror flick as she stood at the altar waiting for the supposed love of her life to come but with her phone in hand as she watched the holy matrimony between him and his alleged business partner been streamed live on Instagram; She remembered.
She remembered all the night she had stayed up waiting for him to come home, and all the excuses he gave her; she remembered all the time she waited for him to pick her up because he had convinced her to sell her car and give him the money to start up a business; she remembered how her pride as a successful woman had been kicked to the curb as she became a maid in a house she paid for. But what could she do than cry as she heard the ceremony come to a close after the exchange of rings and her phone vibrated as her bank gave her a notification that the funds in the joint account he convinced her to open with him had been withdrawn.
