They met in high school, in an unlikely situation too. His family were not as well to do as hers but she had decided within her to be with him till the end. He thought the same too and had decided to claim her once he was rich enough; but how much was enough?? His search for money, power and recognition led him to places till he lost his reason for walking that path.
She waited, though her friends got married and the pressure from her family kept increasing. She kept herself for him though she was mocked and ridiculed by her juniors. She remained loyal to him.
He found what he wanted but as he had forgotten why he needed it or rather his loyalty wasn't to her, he forgot; he forgot about her and moved on with his life, trying to silence the small voice in his head that told him someone was waiting for him somewhere. But he couldn't shut the voice up forever but it was already late as when he finally returned for her, she was someone else's daughter, cousin, and aunt.
He stood there stunned as he looked sadly at the burial poster in front her family compound while her father and brothers hurled causes and insults at him. He then learnt the truth from her mother who had silently endorsed their union that she died loving him, and had warned her father against marrying her off; saying that she would rather die than marry anyone other than him. He stood there as he pondered his life to see that he had always been a late bloomer; always late for everything and now he was late to the funeral of the love of his life.
