This prompt was not so easily understood by me. So this is how I solved the puzzle. When you say selfish it means something that one isn't ready to let go of. And when you say variety it means a lot of options to choose from. So let's put them together, that would be a gift that one is not ready to let go of even though they are other varieties.

I think the reason you can not let go of something even though you have other options is because you are attached to it in some way.
This reminds me of the issue of having a child by surrogacy. Actually it has provided a solution to a problem that women find themselves in when they can not have kids of their own by giving birth themselves.

A child is wonderful gift. But this means that the child would then have a biological mother and a birth mother, making them two. I believe it's a case of no choice, for a woman to let go of the experience of giving birth to her child herself. It also takes real understanding and maturity on the part of the birth mother who is the surrogate mother to turn her eyes away.
On the part of the child, if he or she knows about his or her birth story, will the child accept just his biological mother and let go of the surrogate one? Just a thought.

There are cases of both mother's struggling for the child. However surrogate mothers know what they are getting into and make their choices. Most times they are being paid and made to sign documents. But still this child bearing option is a hard nut to crack. What do you think?
