Not the chicken spring

At the company, major partners got together as they announced one more spot would be filled today. One more hardworking employee would be lucky enough to join as a board member. I was confident either me or Steven would be chosen. We had been partners for years, so we both knew how much higher above everyone else we stood.

As the final moment draws close, Steven and I shake hands. In our childhood tradition, we sip from each other's glass as we share our luck. Anxiously waiting as they begin the ceremony, my tummy starts to hurt. "No, not now! This can't be happening now..." Caught completely off guard, I don't even have time to run to the bathroom.

Everyone stares at me, shocked. I look up at Steven. He's smirking. Ten minutes later, from the bathroom, I hear the crowd roaring "STEVEN! STEVEN!" out in the hallway.
