Entry for "A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words - 6/11/2021"
This is a an analysis of an image from the picture prompt contest hosted by @freewritehouse. Not a story or a poem, but a hard analysis approaching psychology and phylosophy.
Fragmented
There is something, but it's lost its identity. It could have happened because of others, because of something external, or because it's what it wanted. We can't tell. We only see what's there right now. Observing gives us very few clues regarding what happened. What made it this way. So examining is not enough.
If we could communicate with it, maybe we'd gather enough hints to guess more accurately how it ended up that way. But would it even be able to answer properly? Maybe its perspective has radically changed. Or it could be unimportant now, so our questions would be completely disregarded.
We could think of a way to experiment. Force it to transform back. That way we could know what we are looking at and how it came to be. But do we have the right to do it? If it doesn't want our meddling, we should respect its will. Even if it happened to be in pain. In the end, it is something we don't understand.
We could accept not being able to understand it. That's okay, too. Because we don't want our identities to be violated, either, so we can empathize. But we shouldn't forget we are the ones wondering and judging. In the end, what we see might simply be its most comfortable version of itself. In that case, through its perspective, maybe we are the ones who look fragmented.
