If this doesn't pull at your heart, I don't know what will

We see a tremendous amount of suffering with the stray animal population of Krabi and we do everything we can in order to help as much as possible. Anyone that has ever had a pet realizes the special bond that you have with that animal and the amount of joy that it brings to your life as a consequence.

We recently started working with the Krabi Noi Temple and realize that we have a lot of work to do there but there is this one particular pup that brought tears to our eyes.

Like many temple pups, this lovely little baby was dropped off here at a very young age and has likely never known any sort of joy that your dog at home probably takes for granted. Although living in absolutely horrible conditions she still comes out to greet us even before she had any idea that we came bearing gifts of food and treats.

The skin problems that nearly every homeless dog in Thailand eventually develops has already started to set in on her ears and this has already resulted in wounds that are almost certain going to get infected if something isn't done soon. Thankfully, the monks in the temple do the best they can to look after her but for the most part this simply includes giving whatever food they have left and trying to create an environment where the competition for food doesn't get too brutal because as I am sure you can guess, the stronger dogs are going to take all of it and the weak and young are unlikely to receive anything at all. You can see how malnourished she is in the above pictures.

Unfortunately this is extremely common and this poor girl isn't even as bad off as many of the other cases that we see on a regular basis all around the city and province of Krabi. We do all that we can to help and in the case of something as sweet as this little girl finding a forever home for something with such an amazingly wonderful temperament would normally be pretty easy. However, due to the complete elimination of international travel this capability has almost dried up completely. It is understandable because although we look at our situation as being quite dire, there are thousands of other locations around the planet in exactly the same state.

The reason why this particular pup broke our hearts the most is because of where it is that she goes for comfort.

This was where she was lying when we pulled up in our trunk and it is immediately where she returned as soon as we left. A rain covered bag of trash that is somewhat protected from the storms by the tree that is next to it. When I look at the many beds (and a sofa) that my own dogs have access to, this truly broke my heart.

She is too young for the treatment that we want to give to her including sterilization, but we are going to closely monitor her and will take the necessary actions as soon as we can.

I know the whole world is suffering in one form or another during Covid, band the animals that depended on the generosity of traveling strangers is not an exception. Hopefully this can all end soon and we can get back to having some more success stories instead of just constant doom and gloom.
