Tuesday 1/18/2022 European Stock Markets Open Falling

In the midst of surging world crude oil prices, European stock markets actually weakened at the market opening today Tuesday (1/18/2022). The Stock 600 Index fell 1.1% in the early trading session, with the technology sector index dropping 1% to lead the correction, while the oil and gas sector index rose 0.6% amid a spike in oil prices in the Middle East.

Global markets have focused on how quickly the United States' central bank (Federal Reserve / The Fed) will raise its benchmark interest rate and tighten monetary policy in the previously very loose era of the pandemic.

The company's financial performance for the fourth quarter of 2021 has been released, including by Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, and Netflix in the United States (US). In Europe, BHP is one of the issuers that will release its financial performance.

US stock index futures fell in pre-trading Tuesday as investors braced for the latest batch of earnings, after trading closed Monday for the Martin Luther King holiday.

Oil prices soared after the Houthis in Yemen bombed oil facilities in the United Arab Emirates. The price of Brent crude oil rose to touch its highest level in 7 years amid concerns about potential supply disruptions.
