The giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis) is a large mammal known for its extremely long size and tall body, making it the tallest animal in the world. They can reach a height of around 4.5 to 6 meters, with a neck that extends up to 2.4 to 3 meters.

Giraffes live in the savannas and open forests of Africa, where they rely on their height to access the leaves of tall trees, such as acacias.

A characteristic feature of giraffes is the unique pattern of spots on their skin, which serve as camouflage in their habitat. The color and shape of these patterns vary between individuals, helping them camouflage themselves from predators. Giraffes have very long tongues, about 45 cm, which makes it easy for them to pick leaves from tall trees and to clean their faces of parasites.

Socially in general, giraffes usually form groups known as 'herds' consisting of individuals without a strict hierarchical structure. They communicate through a variety of sounds, although they are often inaudible to humans. Giraffes also have long, strong legs, and large hearts to pump blood to their tall heads.

The giraffe population is currently under threat of habitat loss and poaching, but conservation efforts continue to be made to protect them.
