Movie Review Good Boys : The Cruel Comedy of Lost Innocence

The comedy "Good Boys" was released, in which there is an absurd combination - this is a story about children that can only be watched by adults. The film is fully R-rated and may amuse those who remember the awkward transition into adolescence.

The main characters of the comedy are three sixth graders who call themselves best friends. This is a boy named Thor, who is embarrassed by his passion for musicals, sensitive Lucas, who is going through a divorce from his parents, and Max, who is carried away by his first love. Together they plan to go to a party for cool schoolchildren, but before that, the boys intend to prepare and gain adult experience. This idea drags friends into a series of unexpected scrapes.

The film was staged by Jean Stupnitski, director and screenwriter, for whom the Good Boys film became a feature-length debut. Prior to that, Stupnitski had invented jokes for the comedy series The Office and co-wrote the film Bad Teacher, starring Cameron Diaz.

To understand the big picture, it's worth mentioning right away that the producers of Good Boys were Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. They founded Point Gray Pictures, which worked hard to create cinematography with cheeky humor like Neighbors. On the warpath ”(Neighbors) and the cartoon“ Full raskolbas ”(Sausage Party). Naturally, the new comedy, filmed under the tutelage of Point Gray Pictures, could not be an exception to the rule, although it also starred children.

Good Boys received an R rating at the box office for its sexual content, alcohol, drug and profanity. And all this with the presence of minors on the set. It turns out that a comedy in which children are involved is strongly discouraged for young viewers to watch.

In fact, everything is not as immoral as it seems. The film reveals a typical growing up situation. The characters are approaching adolescence, but are completely unprepared for the trappings of adulthood. In fact, director Jean Stupnitski shows what any modern child faces - he notices the hobbies of adults, the essence of which he does not fully understand, and begins to repeat terms, the exact meaning of which remains a mystery to him.

Using childish confusion, stronger than only curiosity, Stupnitski builds dozens of comical situations in the film. No matter how vulgar the context is, the characters still do not understand it and are guided by their own logic. The funniest moments in "Good Boys" are not outright jokes, but the attempts of schoolchildren to realize that they have never seen them before. The heroes try to overcome their panic with balanced conversations that distract them from the absurdity of the adult world.

The whole plot of the film is based on this, which can get bored over time. Therefore, the writers raise another topic - the strength of friendship, for which the manifestation of individuality also becomes a big problem. But they will not have time to go into philosophy or into the drama "Good Boys"; behind every sentimental moment there is still a portion of jokes intended for an adult audience. In many ways, they are perceived only because of the charming actors playing the main roles.

The main cast includes Jacob Tremblay, who plays the role of a company leader looking to grow up. Tremblay appears on the big screens not for the first time, before that the boy starred in the dramas The Death and Life of John F. Donovan and Room, where he worked with Brie Larson.

Lesser-known actors Keith L. Williams and Brady Noon played the roles of his friends. Both are so funny in their seriousness that they have regardless of their attitude to the level of jokes inherent in the tape.

"Good Boys" will meet all the expectations of those who liked the film even on the trailer (and just as alienate those who are outraged by it). The production team, led by Seth Rogen, remains true to their sense of humor, while still making small concessions for the sake of the children. This is expressed in sentimental inserts and in the main line dedicated to how it can be difficult for a child to navigate in all the trends of the modern world.
