Most people on earth definitely hate these insects. Yes, caterpillars! You are definitely one of the caterpillar haters. Therefore, get to know some of the following facts about caterpillars.

Caterpillars, with their various shapes and types spread throughout the world, are a scourge in themselves.

Apart from their writhing and somewhat disgusting shape, some types of caterpillars can cause itching and allergic reactions when touched.

Caterpillars are the larval stage of members of the order Lepidoptera (an insect order that is in the same family as butterflies and moths).

As with most common names, the application of this word can be arbitrary and the larvae can also be called caterpillars. Both lepidopteran and symphytan larvae have an eruciform body shape.

The caterpillars of most species are herbivores, but not all; some (about 1%) are insectivorous, even cannibalistic. Some eat other animal products; for example moths that eat wool, and horn moths that eat hooves and dead animals.

Caterpillars are usually voracious animals and many of them are among the most serious agricultural pests.

In fact, many moth species are better known in their caterpillar stage (rather than the moth stage) because of the damage they cause to fruit and agricultural produce.

Instead, various species of caterpillars are valued as a source of silk, as food for humans or animals, or for biological control of pest plants.
