Camels.

Camels or with the Latin name Camelus are large mammals known for their distinctive humps and ability to survive in harsh desert environments. There are two types of camels, the One Hump Camel (Camelus dromedarius) also known as the Arabian camel, the one hump camel has one large hump on its back.

They are more commonly found in desert regions of North Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia. The Two-Hump Camel (Camelus bactrianus) has two humps on its back and is more commonly found in the Central Asian region, especially in deserts and grasslands.

Camels are mammals with long legs, large-lipped snouts, and humpbacks. Camels have one to two humps which can store fat (food reserves), which can be used at any time when food and water are scarce.

The camel's hump is like a storage container. When the camel uses up its stored fat, its hump gets smaller. When they eat and drink again their humps will fill back with fat.

Its height is around 1.8 meters and its body length is up to 3 meters. Camels like to live together in groups called herds. Camels live about 17 years. Camels are usually found in deserts or grasslands.

They live well at temperatures of minus 29 degrees C to 49 degrees C. Camels adapt to their environment by having a clear third eyelid, two rows of eyelashes that protect their eyes from blowing sand. Camels can also close their nostrils during sandstorms.

The load that camels can carry reaches 170 to 270 kilograms on their backs, according to National Geographic. This is why the camel got the nickname, "ship of the desert". Camels are herbivores.

Their thick lips allow them to eat foods such as thorny plants. For long journeys in hot deserts, camels must stock up on water reserves. They can drink 30 gallons (113 liters) of water in just 13 minutes.
