How to care for kittens

New born kitten.

After giving birth, the mother cat will usually care for and breastfeed her kittens until they are around 4 weeks old. However, if the mother cat cannot breastfeed due to certain conditions, you can give special formula milk for kittens.

When you want to give milk to kittens, you should avoid giving cow's milk which is usually consumed by humans. This is because cow's milk contains lactose sugar which is difficult for the cat's digestive system to digest, so there is a risk of causing digestive disorders in cats, for example vomiting and diarrhea.

Apart from that, make sure the mother cat and her kittens stay warm. To do this, provide a comfortable place, then cover it with several towels or cloths that are easy to clean and dry.

To clean the dirt, you can use cotton wool soaked in warm water. Don't forget to wear gloves and wash your hands after cleaning the kitten's feces, OK?

4 week old kitten.

When they are 4 weeks old, some kittens generally start eating solid food. So that they get used to this food, you can mix it with a little canned food specifically for kittens and formula milk.

Not only that, when they are 4 weeks old, kittens are usually able to walk and this is the right time for you to start teaching them to urinate or defecate in the litter box.

It's easy, you just need to put a litter box around them. Later, they will adapt and get used to urinating and defecating in that place by themselves.

Kittens 6–8 weeks old.

At this age, kittens can be given vaccines to maintain their health. By giving cat vaccines, your beloved kitten can be protected from viral and bacterial infections that cause disease. Usually, vaccines are given every 3-4 weeks until the kitten is 16 weeks old.

Kittens aged 8–24 weeks.

When your kitten reaches this age, you can do grooming, for example by bathing and cutting its nails. If you are unsure about doing so, you can use the services of a pet groomer at a pet shop to clean your beloved pet's body.

At this age, your beloved kitten can also be played with. You can start with various cat toys, such as chasing and catching balls. That way, they will stay fit and active. At this time, they can also start to be trained to be more disciplined and obedient.

When giving him toys, you should choose toys that are safe and made specifically for kittens. Avoid toys that are sharp or small and easy to swallow, such as dolls or toys with lots of beads.
