Valencia winger Ferran Torres joins Manchester City on a five-year contract with The Citizens manager Pep Guardiola seems to want more options on the offensive side.

This is City's first purchase during the summer transfer period and the 20-year-old is tied with a reported transfer fee of 20.9 million pounds (RM115.29 million).

"I am very happy to be joining City," Torres told the English Premier League (EPL) club website.

"Every player wants to be involved in an attacking team and Manchester City is one of the best attacking teams in world football."

"Pep encourages an open, aggressive style that I like and he is also a manager who has proven to have a good track record in improving (the ability) of players. It is a dream for him to be a mentor in my (career) development process."

Guardiola seemed inclined to strengthen his squad when he missed the EPL title at Liverpool. Apart from that, they also agreed to a transfer fee of 41 million pounds (RM226.17 million) to get the services of Bournemouth defender, Nathan Ake.

"We've been looking at Ferran's progress closely and it shows something to be proud of," said City football director Txiki Begiristain.

"He is still young and can be further improved but his technical qualities match the characteristics we are looking for in a winger. He is fast, accurate, can open space with one movement and is able to trigger a winning moment."

Torres made 44 appearances for Valencia last season with seven goals.

The two-time defending champions City ended the season with 18 points behind Liverpool who were officially crowned champions in June after three months of competition disrupted following the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic.
