Best Street Food of the University of Dhaka campus!

Street Food?

I didn't have it for ages!

This pandemic puts our life upside down. You may have known that Bangladesh is a country where Street Food is very popular. There are a lot of foods which you may not find in restaurants, they will not tastes the same in posh places. But now from last years. Because of lockdown, many street vendors have to shut down their business, many move on to other businesses. Also having street food in this Covid situation doesn't seem like a clever idea.

But we can recall some good memories, right?

Street Foods at University of Dhaka campus

I usually visit my campus from time to time. But Universities are closed for more than a year now. I last visited my campus on 16.12.2019. I memorized the date because it was our Victory Day. We have a great day there, we explore different places, enjoying street food, enjoyed different cultural events, and all.

I'm going the share with you the food I had there!

Location

This place is called 'Milon Chattar', where you will get different snacks, lunch, tea, and coffee. They only serve a limited item but they keep the quality. I wouldn't say they maintain food hygiene properly. But how much we can ask from street vendors! The best thing is the price of the foods are very budget-friendly. As mostly their customers are students, so everyone can afford it.

This lunch item is very popular on campus. We call it 'Khicuri' which is a mixture of lentils and rice with a lot of different spices. They serve it with chicken or vegetables, whatever you want. It's spicy, hot yet very tasty. One plate of food only costs 30-40 Taka, which's equivalent to $.50-$.60.

There are more!

This is a popular snack called 'Mutton Tikka' which only costs 10 Taka; equivalent to $.10. It's crispy, tasty, and good to go with a cup of tea.

Their tea is best in the town, at least for me. During our University life, we used to visit this place almost every single day; sometimes two or three times a day just to have this tea. It's very flavourful. It costs 6 Taka a cup, which is like $.5.

This is the decoration of the shop. Nothing fancy, just some usable food racks, some kitchen utensils, and appliances; that's all. It may not seem much to you. But we build a connection over the year.

It's middle of the Dhaka University campus. For thousands of students and many others, this is the place where they take their lunch, afternoon snacks, and dinner because it's affordable and the food is tasty.

I wish I could have the taste of their food again...maybe when the situation will get a little better I will visit there again!
