Hello to all photo lovers who are now Steemit City. Today I want to take you on a historical tour to the Castle of San Carlos de Borromeo or better known as the Castle of Pampatar located on Margarita Island in Venezuela.

Margarita is an island whose foundation was surrounded by forts or forts to defend it from pirates and corsairs who wanted to invade it and take away its natural wealth, including pearls.

The Castillo of San Carlos of Borromeo was built in the 17th century on the coast of Pampatar to defend Margarita Island from pirates. It is an impressive construction, its base is star-shaped and even today you feel a strange energy when you enter it, perhaps it has to do with the large number of men and women who died tortured in its dungeons during the time of Venezuela's independence process.

Among the people who were tortured to death there was the Venezuelan heroine Luisa Cacéres de Arismendi, who at the age of 16 was taken prisoner while pregnant, where she was tortured to death along with the child she was carrying in her womb. When you enter the dungeon where the young woman was imprisoned, a strong energy seizes you and fills you with a great sorrow and sadness that makes many visitors cry without knowing why.

Like all castles, it has a large wall with strategically placed cannons that are still preserved.

With a large courtyard, a high wall and a stone construction that is still standing, this was a tour of the Castillado de Pampatar. If you come to Venezuela, don't forget to visit Margarita Island where you will not only enjoy its beaches but also the history, culture and tradition of one of Venezuela's emblematic towns.
