Steemit Engagement Challenge S5-W3: If Only
It is another beautiful week of the Steemit
Engagement contest. In this post, I would be writing on Steem For Betterlife writing prompt: If Only.
Why do people say " if only?", the statement is usually made during a time of regrets, as you go on a reflective mood, thinking of what could have been if only you did something better. What do I have to write, read on and find out?
If only I had listened when I needed to, a whole lot of things would have been different now.
If only I had listened, I would have known that life could be daunting. Nobody told me that being an adult was not all the rave that I thought it to be.
If only I was listening; it is not like nobody told me, but I wasn't listening, because then I would have sat up to work for a better future on time. If I had been more attentive to the words of my elders would have handled certain things differently. Now, I wish I could turn back the hands of time only to have them say it again.
Of all the things I regret the most about not listening to it was when I graduated from Secondary School in 2013. I was told then by my parents to go learn a skill but I refused, then I'd rather stay in my mom's shop making some money than go out to learn a skill like sewing, catering, event planning, things that were within reach around me. My mom lamented several times how I was too nonchalant about my own life but did I care? NO! At the time, I was so naive to think that all I has to was go to school, get good grades, and gbam I will get a good-paying job, I thought I didn't need to learn these things because money will be a constant for me and not a problem during my academics and immediately I leave school, I will find something tangible.
These thoughts came crashing down now that I have graduated from the tertiary institution. I have discovered that in this country, a certificate does not really pay the bills, skill does. I don't want to bore you with details of my horror story that brought me to this conclusion.
If only I had listened, I wouldn't have been left stranded, frustrated with the government, and depressed by my inability to use the certificate I had worked for because now, I wouldn't care much if I had something to do to supplement it.
I learned the hard way. Would I do things differently if taken back I would? A big YES! I would urge my younger self to grasp hold of every opportunity that comes my way to learn because I never know when it will be needed. Now, the internet and technology have made it even better to learn digital skills to add to one's certificate, this way, they wouldn't be stranded in their journey.

আপনার চুলের স্টাইল খুবই সুন্দর। আপনি কি চুল রং করেছেন?
This often happens when we are so young that we believe we know more than others and that we will make our life in our own way, we are not able to see that adults have more experience and therefore have the ability to see things that we do not. For that reason it is said that no one learns from the experience of others, although I believe that there are cases in which it does happen, but they are very few.
Anyway, you are still very young and you have already learned a great lesson, it is never too late to learn, so let's get to work!
Greetings.
My dear, we all as kids dreamt of being in a big office rather than running up and down doing the handy work. we envisioned life as nothing but good grades. It is now clear that things have changed.
It is never too late to learn that trade, and trust me, having those good grades is a plus. The only difficulty is that the system is against us. I wish you the very best in Life.😍
God knows the kind of dreams I had but was humbled by the situation in this country. It is not too late though, I have started learning a digital skill that will help me greatly. Education ia very good, I am not against it, only that It is not advisable to just depend on our certificate alone. Thank you for visiting my blog.

Thank you very much @simonnwigwe
You've quite made a pretty entry, it's good to always listen to our parents especially when they are instruction us on things that will expedite our successes in life. Best wishes on your engagement dear.
Having a skill alongside your certificate is really important. I have always wanted to aquire a skill but never had the opportunity to do so. Thanks i've really learnt alot from this post
Skills are very important, they go a long way in helping me especially after school.
True, having only a certificate do not pay the bills.
Most times it is not that we do no want to learn a skill, but that we do not like or have passion for what is being presented to us by our guardians. I believe that without having love for what one learns it will only be a waste of all the resources invested in that learning process.
Very true. I think one of the reasons why I didn't learn anything then was that none of them appealed to me. It was as I grew that I discover my love for digital skills and found a way to learn them without anyone having to force me.
Your post is very well presented. Good luck to you. Thank you for sharing your beautiful post with us.
