The Memory Box #4 : My first experience with a Speedboat
This day three years ago, was a day full of fear at the beginning but later ended with Joy.
Have you ever held your breath over the moving waves of the sea while considering it to be your last day?
How about you say your last prayer because you have just ended up in a speedboat for the first time and there was a strong wave in the sea?
Alright, just before I moved on.., let me ask you…., have you ever seen a speedboat that has four engines before? Maybe you should hup in two one of those monsters.
These were the experience I had three years ago during one of my adventures to an island somewhere in Delta state, Nigeria.
Before embarking on this journey, I asked a lot of questions about how the movement would be, and trust me, I was getting regular relaxed replies just to make me comfortable.
If you must know, Delta state is a great water environment in Nigeria. Unfortunately, they were among the states that suffered flood this year…if you are interested you can read the news I wrote about their flood some weeks ago through this publication here.
In fact, they always face floods every year…but that’s not my point of discussion for today.
I was scared inside the speedboat while it was on the move that early morning. Due to how I was filled with a phobia, I was given a life Jacket and you noticed in the following video and pictures, you will see that I was the only one with a life jacket.
The movement was about an hour's ride inside a deep sea with disturbing waves. I was conscious of my environment and I decided to put into practice what I was taught once in my school and that was to always take a record of where we are in case anything happens.
I was sure, nothing was going to happen, but the other way around, I was scared to death during the wave movement…!
Waves happen when there is a strong wind which results in some friction and the water's surface. Depending on how strong the wind could be, the wave can be high, minimal, or even low. But what I faced that day was a high one. The passengers inside the boat were already used to it, I was the only strange person there.
But let me tell you one secret……, hey, I didn’t shout despite that, I was just holding everything firm because the speedboat was just jumping and landing back on the water's surface. And so many crazy thoughts were just running around my mind such as what if this boat should capsize? How about some dangerous creatures inside this sea…will it be accommodating?
By this time, my intestine was simulating fast, I was terrified, but I remained camp. After 30 minutes drive, the waves reduced, and everywhere was almost camp. I had to record/ take photographs because it becomes interesting this time. It was the best feeling so far. The sea view was so spectacular.
After one hour drive, Alas we finally reach our destination and I was like WOSAH!
And just for the record, I like this type of memory because memory converted into a permanent form like this is an opportunity to reminisce.
Do you have great moments/ memories to share like this? I’ll like to read some real original stories like this from you. Feel free to tag me if you write about some of your interesting memories.
