The beach is my church. A typical summer day for me consists of waking up early, walking my dog, then heading straight to the beach. I love the feeling of morning energy. Shades of peach and blue paint the sky like water colors that bleed into each other. Golden hues shine through with soft dapples of cloud. The ocean moves in a gentle motion, filling the air with a gentle mist. The scent of salt fills my nostrils as I enjoy this quiet time before the rush hits. Surfers paddle out, waiting for the next wave, and I just watch for awhile. The summer sun kisses my skin, turning it a deeper shade of brown. I slather myself with suntan lotion to prevent damage. I’ve brought my tongue drum with me, and begin to play a soothing melody before jumping in. I allow the music to take me where ever it wants to go, channeling the serenity of the morning beach. It’s a light hearted melody that energizes and soothes, played in the key of c. I create what is known as a sound bath.

Sound bath is a form of sound therapy. The vibrations from the music hold healing properties that aid in the bodies rejuvenation process. When done in person, it feels like a massage. I also do it in the bath, with a portable speaker. The vibrations resonate through the bath water, actually vibrating your muscles. There are different frequencies that correlate to different energy centers in the body. 432 hertz is typically used for your heart chakra, 288 hertz is for the third eye. There are also different frequencies for different intentions. 888 hertz is for abundance, 444 hertz connects you to celestial beings.

I feel the vibration of my tongue drum tingle my heart space. I feel so energized after playing. I am ready to swim.

The waters in this region are cold, even in the summer. This is especially good for people who engage in rigorous activity because the cold water relieves delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) making it excellent for post workout recovery. Taking a cold water plunge is a form of cryotherapy. It is believed that exposing your body to cold water for lengthy periods of time (at least 20 minutes) improves your mental health and immune system. Your blood is rapidly moved from your extremities to your vital organs and back as your body works to keep itself warm, which is great for circulation and burning calories. It’s also a form of exercise that is easy on the joints and great for the core. You use a lot of core muscles keeping your body in the position to swim. Ocean water is also a wonderful source of minerals, vitamins, amino acids and micro organisms which get absorbed through your skin while you swim. I don’t actually need a skin care routine in the summer. I love to swim.

After a new moon the water has this crisp feeling to it, like I can feel the energy of the new moon hitting with each waving motion. My soul yearns to be cleansed in the waters of earth and charged in the rays of the sun. The sands of the beach exfoliating my feet as I ground myself. I can swim the length of the beach (2.5 miles one way then back) in about 2 hours. The conditions have to be just right, of course. There can be no undertow to whisk me away to an untimely death, and it can’t be so cold that I risk hypothermia staying in the water that long. I don’t do this every time I swim, usually I have to break it up into smaller segments because the water is very cold.

I will even go to the beach on days that it’s supposed to rain, so long as I can get at least an hour of swimming in. When I really want to do something, I find a way to get it done. On rainy days the waters are rough, and swimming in place, against the current, is a challenge, but also what makes me a strong swimmer. I bring a piece of fruit and a protein shake with me. I eat after I exercise, forcing my body to burn into its fat reserves. The cold water helps you burn a specific kind of fat that you only burn to stay warm called brown fat. Low body fat is the key to being able to see your abs, so burning that brown fat will help your abs pop out more.

Now it’s time for some beach yoga. I lay in savasana, or, corpse pose, for awhile, letting my skin tan and dry. If I lay like this long enough, I feel my body start to be pulled from one direction to the next, as if I have become one with the ocean. I can get dizzy from this if I hold it too long.

After the beach it’s time to head home for some lunch. My lunch is usually my biggest meal so my body has time to digest. I like Ceaser salad because it is a well rounded meal. Ceaser dressing is made of anchovies, and provides an array of fats, and there is also fat and protein in the Parmesan cheese that I use. I add chicken or shrimp for my protein. The lettuce and croutons provide the carbs so I’m getting all of my macro nutrients. I drink about 32 oz of water at the beach, and when I get home I make about 32 ounces of tea. My favorite tea is a blend of pomegranate, rose hips and cherries. All three are high in vitamin c, boosting the immune system. All three are also high in antioxidants, eliminating free radicals from the body. All three support heart health. Polyphenols in pomegranate may increase exercise endurance while cherries are known to aid in exercise recovery. I add a little cherry concentrate so I’m reaping the full benefits of cherries, which requires a lot of consumption to really see the effects. Cherries are also a great source of natural melatonin, making sure the body is able to rest properly. Rose hip is renowned for its anti aging properties, being so high in antioxidant, vitamin c and fatty acids. All three are wonderful aids in weight loss. I sweeten my tea with a little bit of honey. Honey can be used as an anti inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial agent. It is commonly used to treat coughs and promotes burn healing.

In witchcraft, this is what would consider this a potion. I make this tea with intent, and leave it on my altar. I play it a sound bath so the vibrations purify the tea before it enters my body. There is a deity that is associated with roses, so I drink this tea as if I am taking her into me, becoming her myself. It’s a sublime experience that taps me into the divine energy of all things.

The cup I choose to drink from is also carefully selected, based on my intent. What do I wish to manifest? What seeds do I wish to water?

After I relax for a bit, it is time to walk the dog again. I like to time our evening stroll with the sunset. I usually walk about 6 miles. Sometimes shorter depending on how much energy I have. We listen to music as we walk. I take in the lush scenery, marveling at the abundance of earth. I take this time to connect with all things. As I watch the sky swirls with warm shades, and gaze at the forest in bloom, I remember that I am also abundant. I am the trees so full of leaves, I am the air the grazes past, I am the sunset against the backdrop of space. I remember this about myself, and for a moment, it’s so touching, my own vast abundance and beauty, that a tear streams down my face. I am creation in human form. I am a comet that strikes, leaving a wake of destruction that forms new life. I am a field of stars, in bloom. The magic of it all fills me. It lifts me to a higher level of vibration. I go home.

Next it’s time for some reiki. I join in another reiki masters live, preparing myself to perform and create my own content. Once my vessel is prepared to be the conduit of healing energy, I can get to work. After my work is done, I can finally rest.
