Today, I would like to share with you about my visit to Sri Lanka’s tallest Buddha Statue, which is located on the Mahiyangana Purana Rajamaha Viharaya grounds. This statue is located east of the island's central hills. The cheapest way to get to this statue from Colombo is by bus via Ambepussa, Kurunegala Highway, which takes four to five hours. It is 84 feet tall and represents the traveling by air posture. Many pilgrims visit this statue every day, and it is a wonderful place to visit in Sri Lanka’s Uva Province.

This area is significant in the history of Buddhism in Sri Lanka because it was the site of the Buddha's first visit to the island nine months after enlightenment. It is also said that Load Buddha gave his hair relics to the ruler of the time, King Saman, who used them to construct a Dagaba.

Because it is a well-known temple in Sri Lanka, all amenities such as water, toilets, food, and accommodation are available on the premises. There are many shops along the road to the site where you can purchase whatever you want. Because this is a charity premises, there is no need to pay an entrance fee; however, if you need to park your vehicle there, you must pay a parking fee of approximately Rs. 50 per hour.

It was built on the Seema Malaka premises of Villuwa Lake and is surrounded by beautiful mountains and paddy fields. . The beauty of the statue is enhanced by the lake that surrounds it. If you wish you can have a good time riding a boat around the lake.

Sri Lankan Army contributed fully to the construction of this statue, which began in 2012 and opened to the public on May 28, 2023. If you have the opportunity to visit Sri Lanka, don't miss the Mahiyanna Rajamaha Vihara grounds and this magnificent statue.
