Depression awareness
Hello steemians, I do hope you enjoy reading and find my thoughts as a driving force to better the society and engage a helping hand as much as possible to people around us as I dive into the discussion of "depression".
Depression is a state of mind of an individual whereby the individual's mental and emotional being is altered causing a feeling of deep loneliness, sadness and in some cases a desire to save the world from themselves via suicide. A depressed person looses interest over everything and even things that would usually cheer them up won't move them anymore. It is important to raise this awareness, as many people working on the streets are suffering from depression. Depression could affect anyone at all, young, old, rich and poor.
"Depression usually sets in after some kind of trauma. Besides this,it has been difficult to place a hand on an exact cause. Depression is not just like any state of sadness you could just snap out of, but it is a severe state of gloominess and despondency. "
Therapy is often used to save victims of depression, but often times it is not enough. Special people have also been trained to talk people on the verge of hurting themselves due to depression out of it.
As stated earlier, most people with depression went through some kind of trauma.
Traumatic experiences like bullying, abuse (sexual, mental, emotional, physical or verbal), maltreatment, rejection, abandonment, body shaming, bad upbringing and background etc. In the society today, it is very easy to point fingers at people's wrong, but majority of the society that points fingers are guilty of the same offences.
With the above stated, it would be noted that most cases of depression are unknown, whereas some are traced to negative actions of people on other people.
Suicide is the last stage of depression. While writing this, I can't help but wonder what kind of unhappiness would make a person want to kill themselves. It almost seems more spiritual than physical.
We can play our part as a society by treating people right, a simple word of kindness and encouragement could save a life. So,why kill what you can save. Just words of a person could slowly put a person into depression, same way words can make a person overjoyed and high esteemed.
It has been observed that introverts are more likely to depression than extroverts, because introverts are much more deep thinkers.
It is also easier to notice the signs of depression in an extrovert than an introvert. This is because an introvert naturally enjoys his/her own company and doesn't always like to get involved, so even if him/her were depressed,it would take time to notice since their personality is similar to the signs. However, an extrovert who is depressed can easily be noticed as him/ her will no longer be their jovial and engaged self
There is currently no exact solution or cure for depression. Besides therapy and specially trained persons, who are trained to talk depressed people back to their right minds, there is no cure.
Which is why it is better to create awareness for the prevention.
A friend of mine always says "Do everything possible to make at least one person smile a day". If we take this up as humans to treat our employees, our teenagers ( they have highly sensitive emotions), surbordinates, colleagues, and anyone we come across generally with a considerate heart, it could just pave way to reduce the rate of depression.
Help those in need, don't add to people's pain if you can't take it away, be nice to people, and of course be kind to yourself so you never fall a victim.
