The event continued with the delivery of material by the team from the Nibong Health Center. In delivering the material, the team from the Nibong Community Health Center explained that Total Sanitation is a condition when a community:

  1. Not open defecation (BABS)
  2. Washing hands with soap
  3. Managing safe drinking water and food
  4. Manage waste properly
  5. Safely manage household waste

Around 70 million Indonesians still defecate openly. This behavior can cause diarrheal disease which results in the largest infant and toddler mortality in Indonesia, which is 31.4% of the total infant mortality rate and 26.2% of the under-five mortality rate in the country. Therefore, we are advised not to open open defecation because it can have a positive impact on public health, including:

  • Prevent diarrheal diseases up to 32% 100,000 children under 3 years of death due to diarrhea
  • Prevents the spread of diseases such as intestinal worms and vomiting
  • Reducing the health costs we have to spend
Therefore, it is recommended for the entire community to use healthy latrines. Because healthy latrines do not pollute surface water and soil, are free from insects, do not cause odor and are easy to clean.

Besides being prohibited from defecating openly, the public is also advised to wash their hands with soap (CPTS). By washing our hands with soap we can prevent diarrhea up to 80%, can also prevent other diseases such as ARI and Influenza and hepatitis.

The material continued with household drinking water management (PAM-RT), which is a process of processing, storing and utilizing water used for food production and other oral purposes such as gargling, brushing teeth and preparing baby food/drinks. Therefore we are required to wash our hands with soap before handling drinking water, avoid touching the water when taking drinking water and clean the container when the water has run out using treated water.

It is hoped that with this STBM socialization, the Leubok Village community pays more attention to and maintains cleanliness starting from the cleanliness of the household environment of each resident so that it can improve the health quality of the Leubok Village residents and prevent environmental contamination and prevent the emergence of various diseases caused by an unsanitary and unsanitary environment. healthy.
