Contest Environment 9th : Enviromental Hygiene - Engaging In Environmental Sanitation & Taking Care of Natural Disaster
Greetings friends and welcome to my post. Today I want to discuss with you environmental hygiene as part of my entry to the contest that is organized by @klen.civil.
There are several danger that are associated in our environment when it is not kept clean. This is mostly common in the rural area than the urban area. A lot of peoples that are living in the rural area often do not know how generous it's to be staying in a place where no one cares about environmental hygiene. Well the reason to this i will say that it's because they lack awareness on environmental hygiene.
Environmental hygiene and Sanitation is an issues that we all have to put hands together and analyses the way forward during the initial assessment. Environmental Sanitation is something that includes the excreta control of human, managing wastewater, solid waste, vector control, pest and disaster.
During my National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) I was part of a CSDs group known as "Environmental Sanitation" and "Rehabilitation Control". Our works was to educate the people of Nguroje on how to take care of their environment in other to prevent outbreak of disease that is mostly common among children. Sometimes we do engaged ourselves on several activities like cleaning of gulter, market square etc, in other for the host community to learn and put it into practices.
Awareness on Environmental Sanitation and Hygiene can easily be pass out to people by visiting them and telling them the harmful damage that is associated if one don't keep his/her surrounding cleans.

Looking at the image above, is I and my colleagues during my NYSC creating awareness on environmental sanitation. From the image above we were educating the seller about solid waste, garbage disposal and harmful effects to human health. We told the seller that every waste product must be kept away and at the proper place that it should be. We equally told the seller that the garbage (waste product) if kept outside for long can cause health damage to human and if not properly taking care of the garbage (waste products) will becomes breeding ground for vermin, rodents and other pests that can lead to suddenly malaria in human health. The way forward to this when educating peoples on environmental hygiene/sanitation is to educate them more on garbage management where the peoples can provide personal metal bin for refuse disposal (i.e dumping of waste products).

Our discussions was educating the people on how they can keep themselves away from source of water like gulter water that is bad and ways in which they can protects they environment from erosions. Immediate action can be taken to localize excreta disposal and prevent water supply from being contaminated. How can this be done?. This can be done when appropriate hand washing materials and anal cleaning is provided. There is a need to provide a toilet and a waste metal bin also.

We equally educate them on wastewater treatment, which we were telling them on how they can prevent water from flowing around distribution point (i.e flowing in just one place). We told them the danger that is involves in human health. Flowing of water in one particular place can be a breeding place for mosquitoes and the rest.

Apart from participating in Environmental Sanitation and Hygiene, i have also participated in taking care of environmental disaster in my community where I assisted the youth in my host community in protecting our environment from disaster. I joined hands with the youth in my area and cute down the branches of tree that fell down due to heavy storm that occurred. We all joined our hands together and prevented a further disaster of which we cut down the tree that free as to enable the flow of water. Our main aimed of cutting down the tree was to safe our environment from disasters like stopping water to flow, which can cause erosions.
There are several of ways that we can contribute to environmental hygiene in our society. This can be done by organizing a program can be described as as environmental health planning. Environmental health planning is simply that means by which the goals that is to be established are set, analysed and facts are gathered, programmes are out in place and alternative proposals are considered that can foster the development of an environment.
